This week we’re going to talk about four items I simply don’t buy anymore. Maybe you’ll realize you don’t need them as well.
- Soda- I gave up soda maybe 7 years ago. I’ve had a sip or two over the years and I accidentally bought soda once but I don’t purchase it willingly. You’re probably wondering how someone accidentally bought soda. I took a cup beverage with a lunch once, I thought it was juice and it wasn’t. I used to drink a lot of soda in high school and I didn’t stop because I was trying to be healthy, I stopped because the price of soda raised and I realized water was cheaper. Now, I stick with it because I don’t want to consume too much sugar and drinking sugar is a quick way to consume too much. Soda (and sugar) are pretty bad for you and if you stop drinking it, you probably won’t miss it. I don’t. I mostly drink water but occasionally I’ll have some juice.

2. Lotion– No, I’m not walking around ashy, let me explain. I have really dry skin and was using body butters for a while. I’ve even found that the hair butter I made from shea butter was multi functional. I’ll use the regular lotions when I’m going on the road so that the body butter i slather myself with before bed doesn’t finish quickly. However, I haven’t bought lotion in a long time because it’s a common gift item and honestly, I don’t mind.
3. Deodorant with Aluminium- I did a whole post on that. I gave up Dove, Lady Speedstick and Degree Girl for a natural alternative. Sure, the studies say that regular deodorants may not be detrimental for your health. However, I stick with the natural deodorants because they work better for me.

4. Shampoo– Since I’ve made my black soap shampoo, I’ve never bought another bottle of shampoo. My hair loves it! It’s super easy to make too. The only thing I do differently, is make it a couple of hours before I use it since I don’t have anything to really stop microbial growth.

A few years back I started making my own lotion and deodorant and I love it. I find that once I make my batch, a little goes a long way. Haven’t tried making my own shampoo yet, but I just might have to put that on my list. For now I use Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Castille Soap and I do my conditioner with a mixture of shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil. The soda thing…..yeah. Gonna leave that one alone seeing that I had a Pepsi today. 🤦🏾♀️

Great post as usual hun. I’ve stopped buying soda too and go for the non carbonated option with fast food meals. I’ve found my skin prefers it that way. The others, I don’t think I’ll abandon anytime soon. ESP the lady speed stick. I’ve been hooked since I was a student athlete. 😩😭
